THE CHALLENGE

Improve the availability and speed of access to the Internet, upgrade with reliable technology.

The property had always been behind with access to the Internet. Previous installations of ISDN had proven unreliable and slow due to the distance from the nearest telephone exchange and regular line failures due to environmental exposure of the line such as lightning, lines being above ground and industrial equipment damaging lines. This could often take weeks to get fixed. Eventually the ISDN service was replaced by a Satellite Service using the Telstra Iterra® IP Satellite, This connection was operationally prone to service saturation and issues with the link having to go across the horizon. The was also high latency and slow transfer issues being experienced constantly.

THE SOLUTION USED

Rising Connection supplied the property with a new M2M commercial grade 3G router with dual receivers, and worked with both the integrator and property owners to establish a monitorable system that gave comparable results to a system installed and running in Sydney CBD. The integrator added two 11db Gain Yargi antennas pointing towards the nearest 3G tower (about 20km away).

THE RESULTS

Internet transfer speeds were increased from an average of 0.8mb/s to 4.1mb/s, latency (ping test) reduced from 100ms to 40ms, the upload rate increase from 0.2mb/s to 2.5mb/s.

We used to feel our internet services were not nearly as good as those in town. Now we have improve speed and reliability and for the first time, we can use skype.
